Lecture explores zombie trend in pop culture

Local indie author and pop culture expert Melanie Karsak will be presenting a lecture and book signing for her new novel “The Harvesting” at The Knowledge Exchange on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.

The lecture, “Why Zombies? Exploring What the Zombie Trend Tells Us About Society,” will discuss the topic of the Zombie Apocalypse and will explore how zombies have come to serve as a symbol of the deep feeling of malaise in modern society.

Karsak will also be signing her novel “The Harvesting,” the first in a trilogy of novels about the Zombie Apocalypse wherein the protagonist, Layla, a champion fencer and Smithsonian historian, helps her friends and family survive the undead apocalypse. Karsak also writes a blog discussing zombies and other trends in pop culture: melaniekarsak. blogspot.com.

Admission to the lecture is free, and books and other merchandise will be available for purchase. Note that some zombie images will be shown that might not be appropriate for some audiences.

The Knowledge Exchange is located at 5151 Babcock St. NE, Palm Bay.
